Frequently Asked Questions

- I think my manuscript is great! Why not skip the critique and go straight to editing? -

You may love your baby for all the time, sweat, tears, and love you've poured into it, but a fresh pair of eyes will catch things you might have missed. Your heart might quicken as your protagonist’s love interest leans in for that kiss to live happily ever after, but hold on! You killed him off four chapters ago. Remember that drowning scene? No? Don't worry, that's what the critique is there to help point out.

If you skip the critique and go straight to an edit, well . . . yes, the edit will point out the dead guy, but now you've paid extra for something that could have been pointed out with a much cheaper service.

- Is there anything you won't edit? –

I specialize in fictional work and do not critique nonfiction.

I also hesitate to work with rough drafts. Make sure you clean up your work before submitting it. This will ensure you are not paying extra for work that you would have changed anyway with a self-edit.

- How do I submit my material? –

You can email your manuscript to iwrite4myself@gmail.com as a Microsoft Word .doc or .docx attachment or with a link to Google Docs.

Please Note: I'm more than happy to format your manuscript for you, but there is a $20 fee for doing so.

- Do you allow payment plans? –

With pleasure!

While we may play in fictional worlds, we have to live in reality. Since not everyone can afford to shell out large sums of money all at once, payment plans are available for those that need a little more time to come up with the money. We'll talk and come up with a payment plan that's right for you.

- Why don't you offer full editing services? –

It takes a full team of experts to complete any task as big as manuscript publishing. While I do have experience in content editing, I don't work with a publishing team, and I'm uncomfortable charging full price for content editing only to make folks look elsewhere for line editing, copy editing, cover designs, publicists, marketing, and sales. I'm able to offer a similar service (critiques) for a much cheaper price.

On occasion, I may overlap into line editing and copy editing, but I am not an expert in those fields. The folks that are truly amazing in every single form of editing are few and far between, and you should be wary of anyone that says they can do it all. Larger companies often have two or three editors working with a manuscript because, after looking at the same project for so long, the finer details are easy to blur together. That's why you look for an editor, right?
