What to Expect

If you think I can help you with your project, step one is to contact me. Sending me an e-mail is free and you're under no obligation to go through with anything if you don't feel comfortable with me. It doesn't matter where you’re located since the power of modern Internet means we don't need to meet in person. After you email me, I'll reply to ask about:

  • Your project - the content and how many minutes you need transcribed. (A gentle reminder: I don't transcribe medical or legal files.)

  • Any particular issues you’re concerned with (formatting, multiple speakers, budget, etc.).

After I’ve listened to a sample of your audio, we’ll discuss how much time the project will take and how much it will cost.

If you like what you hear and decide to proceed, we’ll reach an agreement and spell out the details in plain English.

Turnaround

I typically ask for a full day to provide quality work on an hour's worth of audio, but this fluctuates wildly depending on many factors. The number of speakers, how fast everyone is speaking, background noise, and audio quality all play huge roles in the time it takes to type what is heard. I take pride in doing every job thoroughly. As such, the only "rush" service I offer is the First Draft

If you have a specific deadline, let me know and I’ll tell you if I can meet it. Otherwise, I’ll give you an estimated completion date after listening to your audio file. If I need more time than initially estimated, I’ll let you know as soon as possible so we can work together to find a solution.

Transcription Steps

Every audio file is unique and the costs are, too. Each project will generally happen in the following order.

  • Sample - a free review of a five-minute clip to determine if I’m the right transcriptionist for you.

  • First Draft - I listen to the audio once and record everything I hear. Editing for most basic spelling is done, but 100% accuracy is not guaranteed.

  • Edited Draft - For those that choose to use either the Clean Copy or Full Verbatim services, I'll edit the document for accuracy. Includes research for the proper spelling of people and places, correcting any missed or misheard words, and incorporating any formatting requests.

Rates

  • First Draft     - $1.20 per audio minute. (1 - 2 Speakers)

  • Clean Copy    - $1.50 per audio minute. (1 - 2 Speakers)

If you’re limited to spending a specific amount because of a tight budget, we can work together to plan what services are reasonable within that budget.

Payment Terms

  • A downpayment of $1.20 per audio minute is requested once work begins on the agreed-upon timeframe.

  • Payment is accepted by credit card using PayPal. You don’t have to be a PayPal member, and you don’t have to give me your credit card number. An invoice will be sent via e-mail with a link to PayPal’s secure payment page.

  • Larger projects may require one or more progress payments at predetermined milestones.

  • I reserve the right to withhold electronic files or other deliverables until payment is received in full.

Confidentiality

I respect your privacy, and your work will not be shared without your express permission. Your original audio file and their respective transcripts will be held in computer storage up to 60 days. However, all submitted work is held in strict confidence and no copies will be made.
