Beta Read
Beta reading gives an author a casual reader's reaction to their story. Was the plot clear? Was the protagonist likable or especially irritating? Was the narrative flat or engaging? Answers about the general entertainment level of the story are provided in the form of a short questionnaire.
Critique
This service provides an author with an overall view of a book. A memo is provided that gives feedback and suggestions for improvement on big picture things like the opening scene, characterization, conflict, dialogue, pacing, plot, point of view, world building, tension, narrative voice, concluding scene, and the overall impression after reading. This is an author's chance to tighten up their story and make it more believable. This service should generally come before editing in order to understand the structural strengths and weaknesses in your manuscript.
