If you think I can help you with your project, step one is to contact me. Sending me an e-mail is free and you're under no obligation to go through with anything if you don't feel comfortable with me. It doesn't matter where you’re located since the power of modern Internet means we don't need to meet in person. After you email me, I'll reply to ask about:

 

• Your project - its genre and targeted audience. (A gentle reminder: I don't edit nonfiction, but I'm interested in many fiction topics.)

 

• Any particular issues you’re concerned with (a slow pace, scenes that might not fit, unnatural dialogue, etc).

 

 

After I’ve taken a look at your manuscript or sample, we’ll discuss how much time the project will take and how much it will cost. 

 

If you like what you hear and decide to proceed, we’ll reach an agreement and spell out the details in plain English.

 

 

Turnaround

 

For beta reading, I typically ask for 14 days to read a manuscript and provide a full report.

 

The turnaround for critiques depends on the size of each unique project and the speed at which the author can make revisions. I take pride in doing every job thoroughly. As such, I do not offer rush services. 

 

If you have a specific deadline, let me know and I’ll tell you if I can meet it. Otherwise, I’ll give you an estimated completion date after looking at your manuscript. If your manuscript needs more work than initially estimated, I’ll let you know as soon as possible so we can work together to find a solution.

 

 

Editing Steps and Rates

 

Every manuscript is unique and the costs are, too. Below is an average look at the prices. Each project will generally happen in the following order. 

 

• Step 1: Sample Read - a free review of the first twenty pages to determine if I’m the right reader for you.

 

• Step 2: Beta Read - $2/1000 words

 

• Step 3: Critique - $6/1000 words

 

• Resubmissions -  Critique = 40% off

If you’re limited to spending a specific amount because of a tight budget, we can work together to plan what services are reasonable within that budget.

 

Payment Terms

 

• Payment is required once work begins on the agreed upon timeframe:

Critique - 50% down payment.

 

Beta Reading - payment must be completed in full once work begins.

 

• You can pay by credit card using PayPal. You don’t have to be a PayPal member, and you don’t have to give me your credit card number. An invoice will be sent via e-mail with a link to PayPal’s secure payment page.

 

• Editing projects may require one or more progress payments at predetermined milestones.  

 

• I reserve the right to withhold electronic files or other deliverables until payment is received in full.

 

 

Confidentiality

 

I respect your privacy and your rights as an author. Your work will not be shared without your express permission. You original manuscript will be held in computer storage up to 60 days for beta reading and 365 days for critiques, as will the edited and returned copies. However, all submitted work is held in strict confidence and no physical copies will be made.
